Here you will find GENERAL INFORMATION on the Real Property Tax Exemption available to "Members of the Clergy" in the Town of Ulster.  Please call or visit the Assessor's Office for more complete information.  Remember, all new and renewal applications must be in the Assessor's Office by March 1st.

The Town of Ulster, Ulster County and the School Districts participate in the "Members of the Clergy" Real Property Tax Exemption which provides a partial exemption from real property taxation to the extent of $1,500.  The exemption is applied against the assessed value of the property. 

This Exemption Must be Renewed Each Year

OWNERSHIP:

• Owner must be a minister of the gospel, priest or rabbi of any denomination, who is engaged in the work assigned by the church or denomination of which he or she is a minister

Or

• Owner must be a minister of the gospel, priest or rabbi of any denomination who is unable to perform such work due to impaired health

Or

• Owner must be a minister of the gospel, priest or rabbi of any denomination who is over seventy years of age

Or

• Owner must be the unremarried surviving spouse of a minister of the gospel, priest or rabbi of any denomination

RESIDENCE:

• Owner must be an actual resident and inhabitant of the State of New York
